HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. (KRON) – The kidnapped for ransom Vallejo woman was found this morning safe at her mother’s house in Huntington Beach, California.
While she was missing, she recorded an audio message for her family, asserting that she was O.K., but that she was in the hands of those who kidnapped her.
Denise Huskins was reported missing by her boyfriend on Monday, who told police that she was forcefully taken from their Vallejo home in the middle of the night, and that the intruders demanded ransom.
On Tuesday, the San Francisco Chronicle received an anonymous email from someone claiming to be Denise Huskins captor.
The email said that Denise Huskins would be returned safely Wednesday.
“We will send a link to her location after she has been dropped off. She will be in good health and safe while she waits,” the person wrote. “Any advance on us or our associates will create a dangerous situation for Denise. Wait until she is recovered and then proceed how you will. We will be ready.
The audio file, which is available here, has a woman identifying herself as Denise Huskins, who mentions yesterday’s Germanwings plane crash to time-stamp and authenticate the audio. Mike Huskins confirmed that the woman’s voice was indeed his daughter.
Huntington Beach police said Huskins has been moved to an undisclosed location with a family member. Huskins is a former resident of Huntington Beach.
Huntington Beach police spokeswoman Jennifer Marlatt said, “No details are being released on how she got here as to not compromise Vallejo’s current investigation.”
Vallejo police said they will continue “to remain guarded with specific information” until they can release information “in a responsible manner.”
The department has scheduled a news conference for 3 p.m. today to discuss the case. KRON4 will be live streaming the press conference.
