OAKLAND (KRON) — The San Francisco-based special agents of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, seized nearly $500,000 in counterfeit merchandise associated with the NBA playoffs, according to ICE officials.
The counterfeit merchandise included t-shirts, hats, flags and decals. Nearly 14,000 items were seized over the month-long operation during the NBA playoffs, ICE said.
Large sporting events are often prime targets for counterfeit merchandise retailers.
During the World Series in 2014, ICE investigators seized nearly $80,000 in fake Giants’ gear.
ICE officials have planned a news conference for later this morning to provide more details about the seized NBA merchandise.
