Husband shot by wife while driving, kid in backseat

ANDERSON COUNTY, SC (WSPA) – A woman was arrested after deputies say she shot her husband inside a truck and caused them to crash with their 5-year-old in the backseat.

Kerry Vaughn Gosnell, 42, of Anderson, faces attempted murder, possession of a weapon during violent crime and unlawful conduct toward a child from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say the shooting incident happened on Abbeville Highway near Gillespie Road in Iva, just before 9 p.m. Sunday.

Gosnell and her husband were traveling south on Abbeville Highway in their Dodge Ram pickup when they got into an argument that turned violent, reports say.

Gosnell is accused of shooting her husband with .38 caliber revolver while he was driving, according to deputies.

The victim lost control of the truck which then caused them to veer off the road, flip, and hit trees, reports say.

A deputy, who happened to be traveling behind them, stopped to check on the occupants and provided assistance to them until EMS arrived on scene, according to reports.

Gosnell, her husband, and their 5-year-old daughter were taken by EMS to the AnMed Hospital Emergency Room.

Deputies say the child was treated for minor injuries and released to relatives. Gosnell remains hospitalized for injuries obtained during the collision. Her husband also remains hospitalized and is expected to recover, deputies say.

Gosnell will be served with the outstanding warrants upon her release from the hospital, reports say.
