(KRON) – If you’re in parts of the Bay Area waking up to frigid morning temps, here’s a time-saving life hack that may also save you a little money and gas.
Some of us like to warm up the car to remove frost off the windshield, sometimes leaving the vehicle running for a long period of time. Others use tools to scrape the ice off the glass.
There’s a better and more efficient way of de-icing the car using a simple spray-on solution consisting of household items. You can’t add hot water to a cold windshield, because it can break it.
The recipe: two-thirds parts isopropyl or rubbing alcohol, one-third part water. Mix these solutions together and pour it into a simple spray bottle.
The reason why this works is rubbing alcohol has a freezing point of 128 degrees below zero. So, you can always keep this mixture in your car and it will never freeze.Information from WATE-TV was used in this report.Mobile users click here to view video
