How to get your free tickets to see ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ in the Bay Area

Thanks to actor Harry Shum Jr. and singer Kina Grannis, you have the chance to go see “Crazy Rich Asians” in San Francisco and Emeryville for free this weekend! 

Harry Shum Jr., who is best known for his role as Mike Chang on the Fox TV series “Glee,” tweeted Wednesday he had “bought out a whole theater in SF to make sure we give #CrazyRichAsians a #GoldenOpen this Sat, 8/18 at 1pm. 


The participating theater is AMC Metreon 16 on Fourth Street in San Francisco.

Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis and not guaranteed.

In the East Bay, singer Kina Grannis bought out the AMC Theater on Bay Street in Emeryville. 

“Bay Area friends! We got you free tickets to see #CrazyRichAsians this Friday in Emeryville! I’m so excited for you all to see this movie!” Grannis said on Twitter. 

The movie is the first major studio release to feature an all-Asian cast in 25 years, since The Joy Luck Club accomplished that in 1993.
