Now this is a diet we like!
A new study published in the Journal of Internal Medicine has found that an “anti-inflammatory” diet is associated with a lower risk of dying early.
Researchers from Warsaw University of Life Sciences in Poland analyzed data from 68,000 Swedish men and women ages 45 to 83.
Here’s what they found out.
A diet consisting of inflammatory foods including:
- Fruits and vegetables (such as blueberries, apples, and leafy greens)
- Coffee and tea
- Whole grain bred
- Breakfast cereal
- Low-fat cheese
- Olive and Canola oils
- Nuts
- Chocolate
- Moderate amounts of red wine
- Beer
People that followed an anti-inflammatory diet were 18 percent less likely to die of anything, researchers said.
More specifically, those partaking in an anti-inflammatory diet had a 20 percent lower risk of dying from cardiovascular problems, and a 13 percent lower risk of dying from cancer.
Those who saw greater benefits than from following the same diet? Smokers.
Health officials say many major diseases — including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, depression, and Alzheimer’s — have been linked to chronic inflammation.
By choosing the right foods, you may be able to reduce your risk of illness.
