HOUSTON (AP) – A father in Houston is accused of beating his 3-year-old son to death after potty training accidents, according to police.
24-year-old Anthony Trakemon Powell is being held without bond at the Harris County Jail on capital murder charges, according to jail records.
The toddler died of his injuries at a hospital Friday.
Powell’s sister, 23-year-old Prosha Land was also implicated in the child’s death, because she witnessed the beatings but didn’t do anything to protect the child.
According to court documents, Powell used his hands and a belt to beat the boy when the 3-year-old had a potty training accident and wet himself. Land called 911 last Thursday when the boy had trouble breathing.
A prosecutor said at the bond hearing that Tristan’s 2-year-old brother was beaten and burned from scalding water but will recover.
Powell’s sister, Land, has a bond set at $260,000. Online jail records don’t list attorneys for the defendants.
