SAN RAFAEL (KRON) — Friday morning a fire caused major damage and displaced the residents of a single-family home in west San Rafael early this morning, a San Rafael Fire
Department deputy chief said.
The fire at 20 K St. was reported at 2:40 a.m. The 2-story home was well involved in flames when firefighters arrived, Deputy Chief Robert Sinnott said.
Two occupants escaped uninjured and the fire was under control in 20 minutes, Sinnott said. The home sustained major fire and smoke damage and an adjoining residence on Center Street was damaged by radiant heat, Sinnott said.
The cause is under investigation, but it appears the fire started in a shed attached to the rear of the home, Sinnott said. Damage is estimated at $200,000.
The Red Cross responded to find housing for the displaced residents, Sinnott said.BCN help contributed to this report.
