MAURICE RIVER TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) – Authorities say a teenage driver lost control and struck a tree, leaving the girl and a friend dead and two others injured hours after they apparently attended a high school prom.

State Police Sgt. Jeffrey Flynn said the accident happened early Saturday in Maurice River Township, New Jersey.

Flynn says the four girls from nearby Bridgeton were in a Chrysler PT Cruiser around 3:45 a.m. when the car lost control going around a curve. It crossed over to the other side of the roadway and hit a tree.

Flynn says 17-year-old driver Daisia Sulton and 15-year-old Mikayla Mosley were killed. A 16-year-old was hospitalized in critical condition and a 17-year-old was stable.

Friends and family posted on social media that the girls attended Bridgeton High School’s prom Friday night.
