Homeowner chases suspected prowler off his property near Woodside

WOODSIDE (KRON) — A suspect who allegedly entered a home early Tuesday morning near Woodside escaped San Mateo County sheriff’s deputies after the homeowner chased the man off his property, sheriff’s spokesman Sal Zuno said.

At around 4:15 a.m., a homeowner heard noises from the outside of his house in the 600 block of Mountain Home Road, according to the sheriff’s office.

The homeowner got out of bed to investigate and saw an unknown male enter the house through an unlocked door.

The suspect confronted the homeowner, shining a bright light in the victim’s face, then turned around and exited the home, sheriff’s officials said.

The homeowner chased the suspect outside for several hundred yards until he saw the suspect disappear into a wooded area, according to the sheriff’s office.

When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they searched the area but couldn’t find the suspect, who was described as a male who wore a dark colored hooded jacket and carried a flashlight.
