SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — A San Francisco man has been charged with murder and other felonies in connection with a hit-and-run collision that killed a bicyclist in Golden Gate Park in June, District Attorney George Gascon announced on Tuesday.

On Friday, 19-year-old Nicky Garcia was arrested in connection with the death of 41-year-old Heather Miller of San Francisco.

On June 22 around 6:00 p.m., Miller was riding her bicycle near John F. Kennedy Drive and 30th Avenue when she was struck by a stolen white Honda Fit. Garcia was allegedly speeding on the opposite lane of traffic while trying to pass another vehicle when he hit Miller head-on, according to police.

The vehicle was found a short time later, abandoned near the Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club in the park.

Garcia has been charged with murder, vehicular man slaughter, hit-and-run and auto burglary.

Garcia is scheduled to appear for arraignment on Tuesday afternoon at the Hall of Justice.

Miller was one of two bicyclist struck and killed by drivers within hours of each other on June 22.

On June 22 at 8:24 p.m., 26-year-old Katherine Slattery, was riding her bicycle at Seventh and Howard streets when she was struck and killed by a BMW X3, allegedly speeding through a red light, according to police.

A short distance from the crash, at Ninth and Howard streets, 32-year-old Farrukh Mushtaq was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter.
