MONTEREY CO. (BCN) — Cal Fire officials said several miles of state Highway 1 in Monterey County reopened tonight after firefighters finished firing
operations, which will help contain the Soberanes Fire.
The stretch of highway from Point Sur Lightstation to Coast Ridge Road reopened at 8 p.m. Coast Ridge Road is also known by nearby residents as North Coast Ridge Road.
Power was also restored to area power lines, which were de-energized to keep firefighters safe, Cal Fire officials said.
Officials closed the road and shut the power off at 2 p.m.
Cal Fire officials said the firing operations were successful and that means Big Sur and nearby communities are safer.
The Soberanes Fire has killed one person, destroyed 57 homes and burned 72,566 acres of trees and vegetation. It is 60 percent contained.
