‘Highly suspicious’ fire breaks out overnight at San Jose home

Police say a fire that broke out a San Jose home overnight is now being investigated as suspicious. 

The fire was reported around 1 a.m. at a home in the area of 3900 Hamilton Park Drive and Carolina Avenue. 


The homeowner tells KRON4 she was asleep when she heard noises and saw her ex-boyfriend trying to break into her home. 

At this time she took her two dogs and was able to get out of the home before the fire started. 

It took firefighters around 20 minutes to contain the fire. 

The victim also said her ex-boyfriend’s sister informed her that her brother had two gas cans. 

There were no reported injuries. 

San Jose police are searching for the man at this time. His identity has not been released.

There is heavy and extensive damage to the home. 

Officials have not confirmed if this was a case of arson.
