SAN FRANCISCO (BCN) — Hot weather is expected this week in the Bay Area, especially in the inland valleys and hills, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday marks the 2016 Summer Solstice, marking the first day of summer and the longest day of the year.

Weather officials issued a hazardous weather outlook Sunday morning for the East Bay interior valleys, East Bay hills, the southern Salinas Valley, the Santa Lucia Mountains, the Los Padres National Forest and interior Monterey County.

Temperatures in these areas will range from the mid 90s to 107 degrees.

The heat poses a risk to the health of people who are sensitive to hot weather, according to weather officials. Residents of the affected areas are urged to drink plenty of water and to stay inside during the afternoon when the temperatures will be the highest.

Avoid leaving pets and children in parked vehicles.

The heat this week will increase the risk of wildfires and brush fires, weather officials said.
