Officials are warning Bay Area residents of high fire danger Thursday as temperatures climb into the 90s.

Red Flag warnings are in effect for higher elevations including the North Bay Mountains, East Bay Hills, the Diablo Range and the Santa Cruz Mountains.

The National Weather Service says low humidity and dry grass are creating critical fire conditions.

The warning will remain in effect until 5 p.m. Thursday.

High winds add to the potential danger as any fire that starts could spread very quickly.

Cal Fire is urging everyone to exercise extreme caution outdoors during the Red Flag warning.

According to Cal Fire, 1 out of every 10 fires in Sonoma and Napa counties is started by people using equipment around dry vegetation.
