ORANGE COUNTY (KRON) — A 44-year-old man has been arrested in Southern California, suspected of hiding a camera inside a Starbucks restroom and video-recording several customers.
Brea Police said Melcher Carrilloalvarado turned himself in Monday night, not long after detectives released a photo of a person of interest in the case.
Investigators say the suspect was seen loitering around the bathroom just before the camera was discovered on Friday. They say his arrest came after “extensive media coverage” in the case.
Police describe the recording device as a miniature camera, which was mounted on a shelf in the restroom. They say the device recorded at least seven adults using the bathroom.
Police tell KRON 4 that they’re looking into whether Carrilloalvarado may be involved in a similar hidden camera investigation at another business in the area.
Carrilloalvarado was booked on seven misdemeanor counts and released with a notice to appear in court, police said.
