HERCULES (KRON/BCN) — Hercules police responded around noon Monday to a report that a 36-year-old man was stabbed under mysterious circumstances, according to police officials Wednesday.

Rodeo-Hercules Fire Protection District officials requested assistance from Hercules police at 11:59 a.m. Monday after being dispatched to a possible stabbing at a transit center at 1369 Willow Ave., near police

headquarters.

Medical personnel at the scene were treating a man who suffered stab wounds to his upper middle back and left shoulder areas, as well as an injury to the back of his right ear, police said.

The victim was reluctant to answer questions, according to police.

He said that the wounds stemmed from an incident that occurred at a Hercules gas station about 30 minutes before police arrived.

However, another person said the victim was complaining of a back injury at 11:18 a.m. when he got on a bus at California Street in Rodeo. A second witness described seeing the victim with blood on the back of his shirt, police said.

Based on the witness accounts, police believe the man was stabbed in Rodeo or Crockett.

The Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office has been tasked with investigating the incident.
