HERCULES (KRON) — Police say a 54-year-old Hercules man allegedly stole more than $300,000 from his 84-year-old mother.

Angel Robert Garcia was arrested on suspicion of financial elder abuse, forgery, theft, unauthorized access to computers and check fraud, police said. He is being held in lieu of $215,000 bail at the Martinez Detention Facility.

The 84-year-old woman noticed fraudulent activity on her bank account back in March, police said.

Investigators determined that the woman’s son, identified by police as Garcia, had used her personal information to get access to her bank account and steal more than $300,000, according to police.

Garcia created multiple fraudulent accounts, which were used at several local businesses and casinos throughout the state, police said.

Around 8:45 Friday morning, Hercules police served a search warrant at Garcia’s home in Hercules and reportedly recovered evidence, police said.
