HONOLULU (AP/KHON2) – Emergency crews are responding to a report of a downed helicopter in waters near the Arizona Memorial.
Authorities say one person is in critical condition after the civilian helicopter made a hard landing in the water near Pearl Harbor.
The Coast Guard said five people were aboard the helicopter.
A Honolulu Emergency Services Department spokeswoman confirms one victim was in critical condition.
Witnesses tell KHON2 that the helicopter came to rest in the water upside down and they dove into the water to free the injured victims.
The Coast Guard received notification of the accident at 10:25 a.m.
The FAA issued a statement that the helicopter involved in the crash is a Bell 206 helicopter. FAA investigators are on their way and the NTSB has been notified.
Tours to the Pearl Harbor Memorial have been cancelled due a the crash.
