An “atmospheric river” is set to return to the Bay Area this week, according to the National Weather Service.

An atmospheric river, described as a huge plume of subtropical moisture, is expected to bring heavy rain and gusty winds.

Without enough time to dry out from the weekend, many parts of the Bay Area are expected to experience flooding, mudslides, power outages, and other damages.

And the rain is only expected to intensify throughout the evening.

A Flash Flood Warning is in effect for much of the Bay Area and Central Coast beginning at 10 p.m. on Tuesday night until Thursday morning, according to the National Weather Service.

A High Wind Warning is also in effect until Thursday morning as winds are expected between 25 and 35 miles per hour, with gusts up to 60 miles per hour. This could cause more damage, including downed trees or power poles.

Be safe while on the roads, as this storm will make for a messy Wednesday morning commute.

Drive slow and remember to keep a safe distance between you and the cars ahead of you.
