(BCN) – National Weather Service forecasters are predicting heavy rain and gusty winds starting this evening through the morning hours of Monday for the

entire San Francisco Bay and Monterey Bay areas.

The forecast released at 11:12 a.m. has not changed significantly except for the chance of thunderstorms, which has risen, forecaster Bob Benjamin said.

“Everything seems to be on track,” Benjamin said of the forecast.

A flash flood watch and wind advisory are both in effect for the San Francisco Bay and Monterey Bay areas until 4 a.m. A high surf advisory is in effect until Tuesday morning, according to weather service officials.

High surf could mean a large shore break and rip currents.

Thunderstorms may bring damaging winds of 58 mph or higher, lightning and small hail, which could cause slick roads, weather service officials said.

Benjamin said at 4 p.m. lightning was striking frequently 150 to 200 miles offshore. The lightning could reach land by 6 p.m.
