Hazmat crews cleaning diesel spill on I-880, fourth SB lane closed in Oakland

All lanes of southbound Interstate Highway 880 in Oakland have reopened, according to CHP officials.



OAKLAND (KRON) — A jack-knifed big rig has closed the fourth lane of southbound Interstate Highway 880 at Hegenberger Road Monday morning in Oakland as a hazmat crew cleans up a diesel spill.

An accident caused the diesel to spill out from a truck, according to California Highway Patrol officials.

The accident was first reported at 2:09 a.m. and CHP officials issued a Sig alert for the area at 4:42 a.m.

The diesel oil began to flow into a nearby creek, according to CHP.

Hazmat crews are working to clean the spill, CHP officials said.
