The shock still hasn’t worn off for a Hayward family who lost a fortune in a home burglary, where a victim explains how $100,000 worth of cash and jewelry were stolen from her house.

“They broke in this sliding door, glass–it’s a double pained window,” burglary victim Najia said.

Room by room, Najia retraces the steps of the burglars who ransacked her home.

“They came upstairs,” Najia said.

Two weeks ago on Monday, Apr. 16, Najia says she and her husband returned to their home on the south side of Hayward only to find the drawers wide open and a lifetime worth of cash savings, electronics, and jewelry missing.

Najia says she called the police immediately and filed a report.

The burglary happened sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. that day.

A crime scene technician showed up and documented the evidence.

“I keep asking why it happened. Um, why me, you know? I’m a good person,” Najia said. I always help poor people. So, it’s very difficult to come to terms with this.”

Police say this case, right now, doesn’t appear to be related to any others.

Najia believes it’s possible the burglars are trying to sell her stolen items at gold stores and pawn shops.

“They’re not going out of the country to sell these things. You know, there’s few shops. And if there’s a system, an email system that like you shoot an email to 50 shops that hey you know, alert those people–it’s very easy,” Najia said. “You know, it’s very easy to catch those people.”

The Hayward Police Department says a detective has been assigned to this case.

Right now, investigators don’t have any information to release on any possible suspects.
