SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Some users of the Starbucks mobile payment app are saying that the app has been hacked and their debit or credit card information has been stolen and used to rack up charges.

All of the incidents have involved the apps “auto re-load” feature. That feature automatically charges bank cards to add money to accounts if balances fall below a certain amount.

According to a cyber crime consumer advocate, hackers are using this feature to hack into the app and gain access to bank accounts.

Starbucks has responded to these reports of hacking saying that it’s not a widespread problem. They also assured customers that customers are not responsible for charges or transfers they did not make, adding that if a card is registered, their account balance is protected.

They urge people to contact Starbucks immediately if they see unauthorized activity on their account.
