AUSTIN, Texas (CNN Newsource) — AJ and Jennifer Firenze decided to decorate for Christmas a little early this year.

Their son Landon was sick at home all weekend, and they knew it would cheer him up.

“All the decorations that we had in the yard, he picked them out so it’s close to his heart, and we love Christmas so we got an early start,” AJ said.

The Firenzes spent all day Sunday setting up Landon’s favorite inflatable characters in their front yard, but when the family woke up Monday morning, they noticed a “grinch” stole their Christmas decorations.

“We were crushed to say the least,” AJ said. “To see it all missing, I mean, it was a bummer.”

The Firenzes got surveillance footage, which you can watch in the news story above, from their neighbor that showed someone getting out of a white truck at around 4:30 am and quickly taking the decorations before driving away.

They immediately filed a police report, and what they got in return was a gift they never expected.

“The police department came together and actually gave us a gift card to Home Depot so we can pick out some more inflatables and redecorate our yard,”

The family said the gift card will be used to replace the decorations and keep the spirit of Christmas alive.

“Even when bad things happen, there’s good people out there,” AJ said.
