MARIN COUNTY (KRON) — Officials with the California Highway Patrol have arrested one person and are searching for another in northern Marin County. This comes after an overnight incident involving two car accidents.
The ordeal started around 10:30 p.m. Monday, along Point Reyes Petaluma Road near Novato Boulevard. That’s where police say two people crashed a 1998 Honda that had been reported stolen.
CHP Officer Peter Van Eckhardt said that a woman saw the crash and stopped to help the two when one of them stole the Good Samaritan’s car, a 2001 Toyota Solara.
The other person ran from the crash scene. Officers have not been able to find that person.
The woman had purchased the Solara three weeks ago and her purse and cellphone were in the stolen Toyota, according to the CHP.
Police spotted the second stolen car and the driver led police on a short chase through San Anselmo and Fairfax before crashing the car. After crashing that car, the driver tried to run from officers, but was quickly caught on Madrone Avenue in San Anselmo.
That man has been identified as 20-year-old Isias Estuardo-Rodas of San Rafael.RELATED STORIES: Two people suffer minor injuries in Hayward crash
He was booked into the Marin County Jail on suspicion of a probation violation, evading police and taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.
