MARYVILLE (WATE) – A Maryville High Schooler’s prom didn’t go quite like she expected when she was forced to wear a jacket over her dress. A teacher told her she needed to cover up the sweetheart neckline because it was too revealing.
A friend posted on Facebook saying that she cried in the bathroom as a result. The post also said administrators referred to her as a “big girl.”
She was told by a teacher repeatedly that “us big girls gotta cover up,” according to the Facebook post.
Sharon Anglim, a representative of Maryville City Schools say there is no specific prom dress policy in place. No other girls at the event were called out for similar reasons.
The photo has been shared on Facebook nearly 5,000 times.
