TAMPA, FL (WFLA) – Confused about when to stop for a school bus? You’re not alone.
WFLA Traffic Anchor Leslee Lacey found out Pasco County led the bay area with school bus citations last year with nearly 800. Polk County came in second, next was Pinellas and Hillsborough, then Manatee and Sarasota.
The rules state if you are driving on the same side of the road and a school bus stops, you must stop.
If you are driving the opposite direction as the school bus you must stop, unless there is a barrier, a raised median or a 5-foot unpaved area.
If either of those exist, you do not have to stop if traveling the opposite direction.
