Gavin Newsom will be California’s next governor.
That was one of the big statewide elections last night.
Newsom addressed the crowd in Los Angeles just after 10 p.m. last night and it was shoulder to shoulder inside the nightclub venue which was the former Los Angeles Stock Exchange building.
Newsom’s wife took the stage first, addressing the crowd and then introducing Gavin.
He spoke and the couple’s kids met them on stage.
Newsom didn’t hold back.
He said we are living in the richest and poorest state in America, asking how that can possibly be in an economy as robust as ours.
He hit some of the big issues hard talking immigration and accepting of people.
He also touched on homelessness and talked school safety as he recounted a story of an 8-year-old girl who asked him recently how she and her friends can be safe.
He spoke saying that the work starts today.
“This is a state where we don’t criticize diversity, we celebrate diversity. We don’t reject, we protect the most vulnerable. We don’t put profiting laws ahead of clean air, clean water, and clean coastlines, kids in cages,” he said.
