An amusing Halloween scene or ugly politics? You decide.

At first glance, the front yard of a Santa Clarita home looks like the homeowner is getting into the Halloween spirit.

But you soon see on some of them, the homeowner is making pretty strong political statements.

Brett Haddock, a Democrat and a candidate for Santa Clarita City Council is calling it a “divisive display.”

The homeowner says he’s been doing this every Halloween for the past eight years and never had a single complaint.

Word is spreading and these neighbors came by to check it out.

“We are a county of free speech, so we do have to put up with a lot of opinions that are contrary to our own,” neighbor Rhonda Boone said.

“Let’s not take offense as often as we do as a country,” John Boone added. “Let’s just let it go and see it in the spirit in which it’s done.”

Others have a different opinion.

“I live…right here in the neighborhood,” neighbor Pat Mills said. “I’m not offended by what he put up. I think it’s just for publicity, and I am a Democrat.”

Some neighbors like Mills are arguing the candidate is calling out the homeowner because he is running for office and wants the publicity.

Haddock says he just felt it was the right thing to do.
