COLUMBUS (WCMH) – An 89-year-old woman is recovering after Columbus police say she was attacked and almost raped early Monday morning in her North Linden home.

Wednesday a friend and neighbor of the victim spoke with WCMH about how she helped notify police when it happened. She wanted to remain anonymous.

“He tore her clothes off of her. No woman should have to go through that no matter what age,” explained the victim’s friend.

The victim’s friend tells WCMH she was able to see the suspect through her neighbor’s window.

Leon Alexander now faces several charges after prosecutors say he was the one who broke into the elderly woman’s home, attacked her and threatened to rape her.

According to court documents Alexander removed some of the victim’s clothes and his own.

Prosecutors say he was armed with a knife and a box cutter, and was arrested when he tried to run away from the scene and remains in jail on a million dollar bond.

The victim is out of the hospital.
