SAN LEANDRO — Police arrested four suspects in San Leandro on suspicion of armed robbery, auto theft and resisting arrest following a brief pursuit and search Wednesday, police said.

The suspects allegedly approached a man at about 4:50 p.m. walking on East 14th Street near Oakes Boulevard, police said.

Police said the suspects were driving a black Honda when they pulled up to the man, pointed two guns at him and demanded his belongings.

The man gave up his wallet, and possibly other belongings, out of fear and then called 911.

Officers responding to the call found the Honda parked on St. Mary’s Avenue near Interstate Highway 580 and when an officer made a turn to approach the suspects, the Honda sped away through a red light and crashed into two vehicles at the intersection of Dutton Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, police said.

No one was injured in the collisions, according to police.

Police said the suspects ran from the car and officers apprehended two of them, but two others jumped fences into a nearby neighborhood.

Officers arrested one about a block from the intersection, police said.

As officers searched for the third and fourth suspects, they alerted residents to the effort via social media, urging residents to remain indoors.

Officers and a police K-9 arrested the fourth suspect hiding in the rear yard of a home in the 1500 block of Glen Drive, police said.

Officers found a black replica pistol but have not found the second gun. Their investigation showed that the Honda had been stolen earlier in the day, according to police.

Police said officers found the victim’s wallet inside the Honda.

The suspects are in their mid teens to early 20s. One of them, the driver of the Honda, was also arrested on suspicion of hit-and-run, according to police.

Police said they are not yet releasing the names of the suspects because investigators are checking whether they have been involved in other robberies in the East Bay.
