FOSTER CITY (KRON) — Parks officials say vandals have repeatedly targeted a popular park in Foster City causing tens of thousand of dollars in damage.

Officials say the vandals are tagging Sea Cloud Park with graffiti, using a type of paint that is hard to remove.

The city’s Parks and Recreation Department says the most recent incidents happened last week on June 9 and then again last Monday on June 15. Prior to those incidents, the park was vandalized with spray paint in April and last November.

Investigators say they believe the same people are responsible for the vandalism because the graffiti “tags” in all the incidents are the same.

Especially because the spray paint used is hard to remove, repairs are costly, according to Director of Parks and Recreation Kevin Miller. The damage has cost an estimated $60,000 to $70,000.

“Every city deals with graffiti… but the intent to just permanently damage structures out here is just disheartening. Everybody in the community is disappointed,” Miller said.

Parks officials say they are actively working with the Foster City Police Department to locate the vandals.

Anyone with information about the case is urged to call Foster City police at (650) 286-3321.
