SALINAS (KRON) — A former Salinas High School teacher was arrested Thursday for allegedly having sex with a 17-year-old girl he met while teaching, according to police.
Police arrested 35-year-old Juan Govea at his Salinas home on Willow St. around 10:20 a.m. Thursday.
Govea was arrested on suspicion of having illegal sexual intercourse with a minor and other crimes, police said.
Govea’s alleged relationship with the teen began six months after he stopped working at the school, according to police.
The investigation also showed the 35-year-old man was suspected of having sex with the girl at his home, police said.
When school administrators found out about their alleged relationship on Thursday, they quickly reported it to police, Salinas Union High School District officials said Saturday.
It appeared the alleged crimes didn’t take place on campus or while the suspect was working for the district, school officials said.
Reports did not say if the teen was ever a student in Govea’s class.Bay City News contributed to this article.
