Former NFL player Darren Sharper pleads guilty in federal sexual assault case

NEW ORLEANS (KRON) — Former New Orleans Saints player Darren Sharper pleaded guilty to three counts related to distributing drugs with intent to commit rape.

Sharper was dressed in an orange jumpsuit, with his hands and feet shackled as he pleaded guilty to federal charges stemming from allegations he drugged and assaulted women in four states.


Under the plea agreement proposed Friday, Sharper would serve nine years in prison.

The next step will be for the judge to decide whether or not to accept the plea agreement.

The net hearing in the case is scheduled for August 20.

Sharper has already pleaded guilty or no contest to charges in Nevada, Arizona and California to similar charges.
