A man was arrested in Santa Clara County Tuesday, accused of providing fraudulent immigration services.

The Santa Clara Clara Sheriff says there could be more victims.

KRON4’s Lydia Pantazes is live in San Jose, where the suspect’s office is located.

Investigators say Gerardo Duenes stole money from people who were trying to gain legal status in the United States, Lydia reports.

He allegedly charged clients exorbitant fees for services like gaining legal status in the United States or renewing their legal status.

However, Duenes  wasn’t licensed to offer those services.

Investigators say clients not only lost their money, but they also missed out on immigration opportunities as a result of the inadequate services provided by Duenes.

Duenes previously worked as an immigration officer for about seven years in the 1980’s, but was terminated for fraud.

He is charged with two counts of grand theft and one count of providing immigration services while unregistered.

Investigators say there could be more victims, and are asking anyone who believes they are victims to contact them.
