PETALUMA (KRON) — A 23-year-old Florida man has been arrested in Antioch for DUI after allegedly becoming combative at a hospital while staff was drawing blood from him, according to Sgt. Ron Klein.

Police said the man was driving a gold Hyundai Elantra at around 7:22 a.m. north near Bailey Avenue on Monday. Several people reported that the man was driving erratically, police said.

“He was reported as unable to maintain his lane of travel, stopped in the middle of the roadway for no reason and his vehicle had major front end damage,” Klein said.

When an officer found the man’s car parked in a lot near the corner of Petaluma Boulevard North and Shasta Avenue, the car had “considerable” damage to the front end, police said.

Police found the man inside the car with an open bottle of wine in his lap, and he appeared to be drunk, police said.

After a sobriety test, he was arrested for DUI and taken to the hospital for an “evidentiary blood draw,” Kelin said.

While at the hospital, police said the man was uncooperative and started to struggle with officers. He had to be restrained, Klein said.

The man was booked into Sonoma County Jail on DUI charges.

His bail is set at $5,000.
