(KHON) — A visitor from Korea is spending the night in a federal detention center in Honolulu.
He was on a United Airlines flight from Honolulu to Japan this past Saturday after vacationing with his wife when officials say he caused a disturbance.
KHON2 obtained new documents from the U.S. Attorney’s office that claim the man didn’t want to sit in his seat during meal service, so he headed to the back of the plane to do yoga and meditate.
When he was asked to sit down, documents say started yelling at crew members and pushed his wife. He even tried to head-butt and bite a Marine who escorted him back to his seat, they allege.
In the end, the pilot turned the plane around and returned to Honolulu.
The man was charged with interfering with a flight crew.
He explained his behavior to the FBI. According to court documents, the man said he was sleep-deprived and didn’t know he was supposed to obey instructions from the flight crew.
