BODEGA BAY, Calif. (KRON) — The Coast Guard and other neighboring agencies responded to a fishing vessel that ran aground near Bodega Bay, Sunday morning.
According to Coast Guard officials, crews were dispatched to Salmon Creek Beach around 1:24 a.m. of a 54-foot fishing boat, the Verna A II, after learning it was soft aground on the beach.
Crews said after a failed attempt to refloat the vessel by the owner, motor lifeboat, two swimmers and a personal watercraft from Bodega Fire stepped in to assist the owner.
The owner was reported with no injuries, and was transported to the beach for safety concerns.
Parker Diving and Salvage arrived on scene and removed 475 gallons of diesel fuel, 15 gallons of hydraulic oil and 22 gallons of lube oil from the vessel. This was done for the safety of freshwater wetlands near the beach.
The vessel is scheduled to be removed from the beach on Tuesday.
A watch has been scheduled to monitor the boat until it can be refloated.
