SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — “No-burn” season is almost underway at San Francisco’s Ocean Beach.

Nov. 1 marks the first day that recreational beach fires will not be allowed at Ocean Beach. They will be prohibited from then until the end of February.

It coincides with the Bay Area’s winter Spare the Air alert, which is meant to reduce the amount of pollution that typically comes from wood burning and other sources that can reach unhealthy levels in the air.

The ban will allow time for crews to give both the bonfire pits and beach a thorough cleaning.

The No-Burn season is part of the park service’s Ocean Beach Fire Program.Bay City News contributed to this report.
