SAN JOSE (KRON) – Fire crews gained control of two separate brush fires in San Jose Sunday afternoon, according to San Jose Fire spokesman Mitch Matlow.
Matlow said the first fire was reported at 1:57 p.m. on Corie Court near Oakland Road.
According to fire officials, a group of homeless people allegedly drove their car into the dirt, and the fire began after the victims revved the engine and the tires sparked a flame.
The vehicle was destroyed, and the American Red Cross was called out to assist those that were displaced as a result of the fire.
The second fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. behind a Lowe’s Home Improvement store near Ridder Park Drive and East Brokaw Road.
The cause of the second fire is still under investigation.
Matlow said both fires were about 2 acres in size, and that no injuries were reported at either.
Firefighters remained on scene for several hours at both sites checking for hot spots.Bay City News contributed to this report
