Firefighters find burned body in Bay Point shed

BAY POINT (BCN) — One person died in a fire at a shed in Bay Point Wednesday afternoon, an official with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District said.

Fire crews responded just after 4 p.m. to the 400 block of Shore Road, Fire Marshal Robert Marshall said.

Marshall said firefighters arrived to find a fire in a shed that was threatening a structure. The shed is on a residential property on Shore Road, right off Alkeview Drive and Port Chicago Highway just north of Shore Acres Elementary.

After the fire crews extinguished the blaze, they found a body in the shed, Marshall said.

Firefighters arrived to find propane and other tanks burning, and there were explosions. They got the fire under control in about 30 minutes.

The body has not been identified.

No other injuries were reported.

The fire did spread to some nearby grass and some fencing but was contained before too much could burn.
