VALLEJO (KRON, BCN) — The Solano County Fire Department have contained a 3-alarm grass fire Friday in Vallejo near Ascot Parkway that was headed towards Lake Herman.

The fire was reported at 2 p.m. and has charred about 45 acres, fire crews said. Fire officials reported they were responding to the fire at Georgia Street and Ascot Parkway.

Vallejo fire Capt. Dan Sarna said wind pushed the fire away from homes in the area and sent the flames towards the surrounding open space.

There are no reports of any structures damaged or evacuations, according to Solano County fire. There were several farm houses in the vicinity that would have been threatened by the blaze had firefighters not acted quickly to contain it or had the wind driven the flames further, Sarna said.

Roughly 30 firefighters from Vallejo, Cal Fire and surrounding communities responded to the blaze, he said.

Fire crews were able to contain the fire at about 5 p.m., Sarna said.

He said ensuring the fire crews had a steady water supply was a concern and he credited Cal Fire’s helicopter crew with helping battle the blaze from the sky.

Fire crews will be stationed overnight to ensure that no hot spots reignite, Sarna said.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said.
