SANTA ROSA (KRON) — Firefighters are working to extinguish a four-alarm fire that broke out at a warehouse in Santa Rosa Tuesday morning, fire officials said.
The fire destroyed a storage shed and an adjacent furniture storage warehouse in the Railroad Square area of Santa Rosa early Wednesday morning, a fire battalion chief said.
Firefighters found more than half of the 4,000-square-foot storage shed burning in the rear of the property when they arrived at 737 Wilson St. around 2:15 a.m., Fire Battalion Chief Mark Basque said.
The fire was reported at about 2:08 a.m. at 737 Wilson St.
The warehouse is used to store books for Copperfield’s Books Inc. as well as furniture, vehicles and debris for other businesses, assistant fire marshal Paul Lowenthal said.
Crews got the fire under control at about 3:50 a.m.
Personnel from the city’s public works department are now on the scene with backhoes and tractors to break apart a large amount of debris from the fire, Lowenthal said.
No injuries have been reported.
An adjacent all-wood warehouse with no built-in fire protection and two moving vans parked between the two structures quickly caught fire, Basque said.
Harry’s Second-Hand Antiques Warehouse, a long-standing used furniture and antique business, used the warehouse for storage, Basque said.
Firefighters prevented the flames from burning another structure, a warehouse associated with Copperfield’s Books Inc. that is attached by a noncombustible wall.
That warehouse located at the corner of Wilson Street and West Eighth Street sustained light smoke damage and remains open for business, Basque said
The fire caused structural and content damage estimated at $450,000, and the cause is under investigation, Basque said.
Firefighters from Rincon Valley, Sebastopol, Windsor, Cal Fire and Bennett Valley also responded to the fire.
The cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.Stay with KRON4 News for updates
