MONTEREY (BCN) — Firefighters are working to extinguish a 300-acre wildfire this evening in unincorporated Monterey County.
Cal Fire spokesman Jonathan Pangburn said firefighters were dispatched at 3:27 p.m. to the Metz Fire, which is located near Metz Road and
Blue Jay Lane, east of Soledad.
The fire is zero percent contained.
No one has been injured and there is no immediate threat to homes. The main threat is to power transmission lines, which would cause a major
power loss in Monterey County, Pangburn said.
“That is the primary concern,” he said.
Wind is the driving force behind the fire. Winds from the Salinas Valley are blowing at about 15 to 20 mph. The fire is consuming mostly grass, Pangburn said.
About 60 firefighters are fighting the blaze.
