A second alarm residential fire in Glen Park was extinguished by fire crews on Monday afternoon.

The house located on Melrose Avenue went up in flames early in the afternoon, according to fire officials, and black smoke was reportedly seen from blocks away.

Neighbors had reported smoke coming out of the windows of a single family home.

The fire escalated to a two-alarm fire due to the fact that the homes are very close together and the roads are narrow creating access to the home not easy.

Fire crews arrived and began work to keep the fire from spreading to the neighboring homes.

Clean up is now underway and officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

At this time, officials are unsure if any residents were home at the time of the fire.

Firefighters had asked residents to avoid the area of Melrose Avenue between Gennessee Street and Brentwood Avenue.
