Fire at vacant rental home causes $75K in damage

FAIRFIELD (KRON/BCN) — A two-alarm kitchen fire that spread to an attic caused around $75,000 in damage to a vacant rental home in south Fairfield late Monday morning, a fire department captain said.

The fire at 2108 Vine Court was reported at 11:36 a.m. and was controlled in about 20 minutes, Fairfield Fire Capt. John Sturdee said. The house was vacant and did not contain any contents, Sturdee said.

Fire and heat damage was confined to the kitchen and attic, but there was some smoke damage to the rest of the 1,700-square-foot house, he said.

The homeowners had been doing some painting and cleanup at the home but were not there when the fire started, Sturdee said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
