MARTINEZ (KRON) — A fire at a Martinez hospital has prompted evacuations on Friday afternoon, according to a fire marshal with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.

The fire broke out at the back of the hospital near the emergency room, fire officials said.

The fire was reported at 2:06 p.m. in the boiler room of the Contra Costa County – Martinez Health Center at 2500 Alhambra Ave. There is significant smoke on the second floor, firefighters said.

Patients on the first and second floor have been evacuated, county health service officials said. Patients on the third, fourth, and fifth floors are sheltering in place.

The fire is now under control and is now out. No other injuries have been reported at this time.

Firefighters are looking for the seat of the fire, Marshal Robert Marshall said.

He could not yet say how many people have been evacuated.

People are being asked to stay away from the hospital.Bay City News contributed to this report.
