VACAVILLE (KRON) — Vacaville police used a patrol car fingerprint reader Wednesday evening to arrest a Hawthorne man who is suspected of committing identity theft crimes in the western United States.

Police said Darnell Thompson, 27, is a big-time criminal in several western states, accused of mail theft, identity theft, and he had meth on him.

This started as a routine traffic stop when police said Thompson handed Vacaville police a fake California driver’s license.

Once police realized that they had the Los Angeles County man use a mobile fingerprint reader right there on the side of the road, that tipped them off to all the crimes he allegedly committed.

Thompson was arrested for the thefts, burglary, fraud, false impersonation, possession of stolen property, burglary tools, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia and a probation violation, police said.

Police said nearly all patrol cars in Vacaville have the mobile fingerprint readers, and they’ve been useful several times.Bay City News contributed to this report
