SANTA ROSA (KRON) — San Rafael police said a convicted felon out on bail committed a deadly weapon assault with a rifle pellet gun on Wednesday.

Police said it happened at around 6:44 p.m. in the area of the 300 block of Yolanda Avenue. Officers responded to a call about a suspect with a gun.

When officers arrived, they said they found out a man had confronted a victim and pointed a rifle at the victim’s face. The victim told police he did not know the suspect.

The victim also said the suspect made criminal threats to him before he ran away east on Yolanda Avenue.

“Once this information was relayed, several more SRPD officers, two SRPD K-9 teams, SCSO deputies and SCSO Helicopter “Henry 1″ responded to the area. A perimeter was set and a large scale grid search began. The search was ongoing when the suspect, 27-year-old Cotati resident Christopher Leigh Hanna, was located in a residential neighborhood near Burt Avenue. Hanna was positively identified as the suspect.,” Sgt. Justin Farrington said.

Police found the rifle in the 800 block of Yolanda Avenue. It was a rifle-style pellet gun, police said.

Hanna was out on bail for a weapons charge from six days ago that stemmed from an arrest in Rohnert Park.

He was booked on the following charges: Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 245(a)(1) PC, Commission of a Felony While on Bail – 12022.1(a)(1) PC, and Criminal Threats – 422 PC.
